
BEST EVER BRATWURST



INGREDIENTS
- 6 tablespoons butter
- 2 medium yellow onions thinly sliced
- 6 cloves garlic roughly chopped
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 19.76 ounce packages bratwurst links
- 3 12 ounce cans beer or water
- 10 brat buns
- - sauerkraut warmed
- - horseradish mustard
DIRECTIONS
In large saucepan or Dutch oven with lid, melt butter over medium-high heat. Sauté onions, garlic, pepper and salt until softened and slightly browned (about 7-9 minutes).
Add brats and beer to pan; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, covered, 20-25 minutes or until cooked through. Remove brats from beer mixture; set aside.
Strain onions. Place onions back in pan, and continue cooking over medium heat until golden brown and all liquid is absorbed, stirring occasionally.
Meanwhile, prepare grill to medium heat. Place brats grill; grill turning occasionally, until browned evenly on all sides (about 10-12 minutes).
Place brats in buns. Top with caramelized onions, warm sauerkraut and horseradish brown mustard.
