SAUSAGE & MUSHROOM BREAD

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 loaf Italian or Vienna bread unsliced
  • 1 pound bulk Italian sausage
  • 2 8 ounce packages sliced button mushrooms
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1 tablespoon chopped garlic
  • 1 24 ounce jar mushroom pasta sauce divided
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

DIRECTIONS

Slice bread in half horizontally. Using your fingers pull out most of the soft bread to form 2 hollow shells. Save pulled-out bread for another use.

In large skillet over medium-high heat, cook and crumble sausage, mushrooms, onions and garlic until sausage is no longer pink; drain off grease. Stir in 2 cups pasta sauce.

Divide mixture between bread shells; top with cheese. Place on large baking sheet.

Bake in preheated 425°F oven until the cheese has melted (about 10-15 minutes). Cut into slices and serve.
